Beginning this weekend, Sunday, September 13, Kelly Gorder will be teaching mat class.
This first class will be at 10 am, and the rest will be moved to later in the day, time tba.
You probably have met Kelly at the studio taking classes! To get a glimpse into Kelly’s Pilates world, I asked her a few questions.
1. What brought you to Pilates?
I was living in Steamboat Springs, CO beating up my body and doing a lot of running, biking and skiing. My legs were super strong but I wasn’t balanced, my core wasn’t strong, and my back was killing me. There is an amazing studio there with expert teachers helping athletes make sure they can keep doing what they like to do. Within a short time, I was hooked! My back felt better, and I was just generally stronger, more flexible, had better posture, and overall I was just working better!
2. What’s your favorite mat exercise?
I love ‘rolling like a ball.’ It’s great for spinal mobility and you really need to engage those deep core muscles to put on the brakes at the top. Plus, it’s fun to revert back to a natural motion we used to all do as kids….it’s a good reminder that we all have the ability to be more flexible, because that’s how we all started.
3. What do you love about teaching?
Teaching allows me to connect to the community in a meaningful way. Pilates has the opportunity to help everyone feel more balance, flexibility, and/or strength. Helping guide my friends and neighbors to feel better in their bodies is super rewarding.
