If you’ve been around lately, you may have noticed people other than me teaching at the studio. Some teaching private Pilates lessons, some teaching Taijiquan, leading a health workshop, or maybe you came to another workshop. I know so many wonderful people, both clients and teachers. In light of creating a sense of us all working together (and maybe you WILL take a workshop from one of these fine folks this year), I am conducting a few beginning of the year get-to-know you interviews. I will start with the teachers and presenters and then there will be client interviews too! Then you can be inspired by their stories and say hello when you see these wonderful folks!
I begin with Haley New. I met Haley at Madison Pilates where she went through the teacher training program. Haley is very friendly and sweet and I asked her a few questions about Pilates.
Me: What are some of your favorite things about Pilates?
Haley: I like the fact that you touch on the whole body throughout a lesson but never fatigue a muscle group.
I enjoy the mind body connection involved with Pilates, and teaching others to seek them out. I still have breakthroughs and epiphanies, it’s great.
I really love the fact that all body types can do Pilates, and that everyone benefits from it one way or another.
Me: Are you interested in other forms of exercise?
Haley: I’m very interested in doing Yoga. I just know that it is necessary for my body. But honestly it’s just been Pilates, biking and hiking for me.
Me: What do you do to take care of yourself with your busy schedule?
Haley: I eat a healthy diet, get sufficient sleep, do Pilates, and get out doors on a hike with my dog.
Me: If could meet Joe Pilates, is there anything you would ask him?
Haley: I would ask him for a lesson.
Haley New: “I started practicing Pilates because I want to live my life with out too many aches
and pains; I know that in order to do that, I have to invest time and energy into my
body. Pilates allows me to maintain my posture as well as stay confident in my
fitness level knowing it will stay up to par for future hiking, kayaking, biking and
being on another road trip. It’s up to everyone to give him or herself a quality life;
Pilates is a great way to invest in yourself.”
