There are times when I feel I am continually running out of energy. Then I think “when I get this project done, I’ll feel better” or “if I could just spend a couple of days sleeping, I’d have more energy.” Even though I practice meditation and yoga and eat organic foods, sometimes my health suffers, my skin suffers, my muscles ache. One virus after another comes through town, and I get them all. I have had many weird illnesses and doctors aren’t always great at diagnosing mysteries. If this sounds familiar, wouldn’t it be nice to have some new tools in your tool-kit so you could get back to balanced health in your lives? There are so many more interesting things to be doing. Meet Meredith Rhodes Carson. The woman with wellness tools for your health toolkits. Meredith has had her share of health issues and has learned how to bring her health and life back into comfortable balance. She is going to be leading a Wellness Workshop on February 1st 2-3 pm to give us a taste of how to regain control over our health. She has an holistic and practical view of what health is and how to create it for a better life. I decided to do a brief interview with Meredith so we could hear a bit of what she has to share. Here is Part 1 of the interview. Read on for her intriguing answers.

To achieve wellness – or to gain health as I often say – a person needs to find their balance in life. That balance involves relationships with themselves and others, physical fitness, a career or calling that is in line with your authentic self, and spirituality (or in my case, a decent sense of awe about our place on earth). These things are all aspects of YOU. This is the you-ness of you. And this balance (or imbalance) is strengthened by what you choose to fuel your body with. I have experienced this first hand – that food is medicine. There is a very real connection between the foods you eat and how you feel.
I can continue to define wellness – but really this is a primal instinct. We know if we have wellness or not. But more importantly, we should all know that we have quite a bit of control of our health and wellness. More than we were taught to believe.

I’ll use myself as an example of someone who changed their life from surviving to thriving… I hope that by sharing my story, you can better visualize your story. We all have one.
We’ll do an exercise that gets you thinking about your own personal balance, so you can identify parts of your own life that need some TLC. This is important – because the name of the game is satisfaction. In order to gain health, you’ve got to be happy. And you’ve got to take steps to make that happen. Often times, this requires thinking outside of the box, and giving yourself permission to change.
We’ll also craft some meaningful health goals. These won’t look like ‘lose 30 pounds’. We’re going to do a bit of asking ourselves ‘Why?’ and digging deeper to get below the surface to really understand what we’re after. The plan is to set yourself up for success, so that gaining health just happens.
And I might give everyone some homework ;)
